- Didi: Check the ride category, displayed estimate or fixed-price terms, pickup point, and payment method in the app. Set up your account before travel and ensure you can receive any required verification messages. A data-only eSIM does not necessarily provide a phone number or SMS.
- Kiwitaxi: A prebooked private-transfer option. Confirm the exact meeting point, vehicle size, included services, and waiting policy in your booking. A name-sign pickup or English-speaking driver should be confirmed rather than assumed.
Differences Between Shanghai Taxi, Didi, and Kiwitaxi
The most useful comparison is what each booking includes. A private transfer may suit your luggage or family needs, but availability and terms vary by vehicle and provider.
- Driver communication and meeting point: If you need English-language support, request it before booking and confirm availability. Save the meeting instructions and support contact offline.
- Luggage capacity: During my trip, I had two large suitcases and a carry-on bag. The spacious vehicle helped, but another booking may use a different car. Give the provider your bag sizes and passenger count, and confirm capacity.
- Traveling with children: Request the appropriate child seat before paying and obtain confirmation. Check any extra charge and whether the seat suits your child’s age and size.

- Book the correct journey: Enter the airport, terminal, flight number, date, and hotel address. Check the local arrival date for an overnight flight.

- Plan for delays: Check flight tracking, free waiting time, additional waiting charges, and the cancellation policy. Keep a way to contact the provider if your flight or baggage is delayed.
Choosing the right ride for your journey
For a short city trip, a metered taxi or app-booked ride may be convenient. A prebooked transfer can help when you need to arrange a particular vehicle or pickup plan. Choose according to your journey and the confirmed terms.
For a late arrival, compare the full cost and waiting policy. A higher fare alone does not prove overcharging: night, distance, and waiting charges can all affect a metered journey. If a charge seems wrong, retain the receipt and contact the operator with the trip details.
